A real, practical packing list — not just "bring khaki"
Beyond the standard "wear neutral colors" advice, here's a more complete, practical packing guide for an actual Tanzania safari.
Neutral tones — khaki, olive, tan — rather than bright colors or pure white/black, which can attract insects or stand out against the landscape. A warm layer matters more than people expect: early-morning game drives are genuinely cold even in a hot country, especially in open vehicles.
A wide-brim hat, high-SPF sunscreen, and sunglasses — the equatorial sun is stronger than most travelers anticipate, even on overcast days.
Binoculars are genuinely useful, not optional — many meaningful sightings (a distant leopard, a bird species) are hard to appreciate without them. A good camera or phone with zoom capability, and spare batteries/a power bank, since charging opportunities vary by camp.
A basic first-aid kit with any personal medications, a reusable water bottle, and a headlamp or torch — camps aren't always fully lit at night.
This list doesn't apply — a mountain climb requires an entirely separate cold-weather packing list. Ask us for one once your climb is booked.
Most camps offer laundry service, so packing for a full trip's worth of outfits usually isn't necessary — pack lighter than you think you need to.
