Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest inactive, intact volcanic caldera — a natural amphitheater roughly 260 square kilometers across, ringed by walls up to 600 meters high. Inside, an estimated 25,000 large animals live within the crater floor year-round, including one of Tanzania's best chances of spotting endangered black rhino alongside dense populations of lion, elephant, and buffalo. The surrounding Ngorongoro Conservation Area is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to Maasai communities who still graze cattle within its boundaries.
