What Animals Will You See on a Tanzania Safari?

The Big Five gets most of the attention, but a real Tanzania safari typically involves far more wildlife than those five species alone — here's a fuller, honest picture.

The Migration Species

Wildebeest and zebra, in numbers that are genuinely hard to grasp until you've seen them — over a million wildebeest move through the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem in a continuous annual loop, alongside hundreds of thousands of zebra and gazelle.

Predators Beyond Lion and Leopard

Cheetah, spotted hyena, and African wild dog (though the latter genuinely rare and unpredictable) all appear across the northern parks.

Primates

Olive baboons and vervet monkeys are common almost everywhere; black-and-white colobus monkeys are a real highlight specifically at Arusha National Park's forested areas.

Birdlife
