Getting ThereAbout a 45-minute drive from Arusha

Arusha National Park sits in the shadow of Mount Meru, Tanzania's second-highest peak, and packs a striking variety of landscapes into a relatively small area — montane forest, the alkaline Momella Lakes, and open grassland, all within around 552 square kilometers.

Walking Safaris

This is one of the few parks in Tanzania where walking safaris are actually permitted, led by an armed ranger — a genuinely different way to experience the bush than a standard vehicle-based game drive.

Giraffes and Colobus Monkeys

Arusha has some of the country's highest concentrations of giraffe, alongside troops of black-and-white colobus monkeys in the forested areas — reliable sightings that many bigger, more famous parks can't guarantee as consistently.

Climbing Mount Meru

For travelers with extra time, Mount Meru offers a genuine multi-day trek with far fewer other climbers than Kilimanjaro, and views of Kilimanjaro itself on a clear day.

Getting There

About a 45-minute drive from Arusha town — genuinely convenient, and often overlooked for exactly that reason.
