Rwanda has earned a reputation as one of Africa's best-run and most scenic countries, nicknamed the "Land of a Thousand Hills" for its dramatic, terraced landscape. Volcanoes National Park, home to mountain gorillas and golden monkeys, is the main draw for visitors, while the capital, Kigali, is known for being notably clean and safe. Rwanda's gorilla trekking permits are typically more expensive than Uganda's, but treks are often shorter given the terrain.
