Gombe Stream National Park

Gombe Stream National Park, on the shore of Lake Tanganyika in western Tanzania, is where Jane Goodall began her pioneering chimpanzee research in 1960 — work that reshaped how science understands the relationship between humans and great apes. At just 56 square kilometers, it's one of Tanzania's smallest parks, but its steep forested hills hold several habituated chimpanzee communities, making chimp trekking here a genuinely different experience from a typical savanna safari.
